I had always heard great things about River Legacy Park in Arlington, but the thought of figuring out where to go in a 1,300-acre park was overwhelming.
I have to say, I should have gone sooner.
While we encountered the most amount of people we’ve seen in awhile, I didn’t feel anxious because of the sheer vastness of the green space.
When we entered the park near the Nature Center (which we plan to check out once everything opens back up), there were so many opportunities to park and explore. But I had read about a trail near the north end of the park (tip, when you reach a fork, turn left). We parked near the Legacy Pavilion and found the head of a trail nearby. While on our walk, we used the All Trails app on my phone which helped guide us since there are no posted maps.
We took the paved trail that was near the Trinity River, a running theme on many of my recent walks. On this shady trail, there are a couple of opportunities for scenic overlooks. We also took a chance and explored off the paved path. I am so glad we did because we got an up-close look at the Trinity. During our walk, we also saw two very distinctly different looking lizards, a couple of camouflaged spiders, a few turtles, two herons and lots of different kinds of footprints.
I didn’t see as many children biking on this path, but more serious bicyclists and a few trailers attached to their parent’s bicycle. We also lots of families having picnics, playing catch and flying kites.
Length: We walked 1.5 miles round trip, google map, trail map.
